Chapter 4: Rules

Scroll

In 1917 the Migratory Bird Treaty Act changed life for birds and hunters.

It banned commercial hunting of migratory birds, protecting birds, nests, eggs and habitats.

It was the end of an era for the Goose Boat of Merigomish.

The canoes of Maliko’mijk were here long before the Goose Boat of Merigomish. Today Mi’kmaw treaty rights to hunt and fish are recognized in law.
